King 8307L
Price $58
This circ saw landed in the middle of the road for the parameters of our test. Its best features are the guard retraction and a good weight and balance. However, the King was rated low in the area of dust control, with a dust-port design that leaves dust flying all over during a cut.
The shoe plate is made of thin, stamped steel and it operates reasonably well, although it would probably bend if you dropped the saw on your workshop floor.
When in use, the saw has reasonable cutting power and fair blade-guard action. Following a line is aided by a laser light that turns on and off independently of the saw power.
Overall, the King is an economy circ saw and comes in at the lowest price point in the test group.
DeWalt DW368
Price $150
The DeWalt saw is one of the top-rated saws of the pack. It features loads of power with good sawdust control, kicking the dust out at the back in the same direction as the Bosch. The open shoe makes it easier to follow a line than with other saws with right-side blades.
When it comes time to change a blade, the angled blade wrench makes easy work of the task. However, there is no on-board blade storage for this tool.
The DeWalt earns top marks for its weight and balance. It is very comfortable to hold, with excellent balance for both one- and two-handed cutting, and features a particularly comfortable front grip.
Another pro is the cord. Made from thick, flexible rubber, it is easy to work with and has a two-prong tip on an end that is large and easy to grab.
