Extension cords to keep you connected |
Power up! those projects aren’t going to built themselves;
you’ll need electricity for all of your (corded) power
tools. Choose the right extension cord for the application,
and you’ll never blow the circuit breaker again.
See right: 1. Keeping cords organized
is easier when they come with their own cord reel, such as Rite-Lite’s
Professional Triple Tap Retractable Metal Reel, which is wall-
or ceiling-mountable ($40).
2.
With four outlets spaced over its four-foot length, and safety
guards to cover the outlets when not in use, this Bench Mate
Power Distribution Cord is perfect to run along your workbench,
so you can plug in your tools ($25).
3. Noma’s 12-gauge, heavy-duty
weatherproof ProPower Contractor Choice cord has three grounded
outlets together in a fantail ($13).
4. A medium-duty cord such as this
Commercial Electric 14-gauge is well suited for a multitude
of uses ($14).
5. It all comes together with a CableClamp
to secure your little bundle of joy ($3).
6. Safety first, with a 15-amp Ground
Fault Circuit Interrupter from Woods Yellow Jacket that gives
GFCI protection and indicates power ($60).
7. The Woods PowerLite Plug attaches
to the end of cords and lets you see at a glance if the juice
is on. It’s recommended for sump pumps and freezers, as
well as power tools, naturally ($4).
See below: 8. Commercial Electric’s
HiVisibility cord unrolls to 80 feet and is heavy-duty (12-gauge)
so it can be used for snowblowers and other power equipment
($30).
9. Hang cords on the shop wall and
keep them out of the way with a Woods CarryStrap ($3).
10. This 15-foot Commercial Electric
cord is light-duty (16-gauge, 13-amp) but it’s good for
indoors and outdoors-–try it on your weed trimmer ($9).
11. You can bundle up cords with simple
Velcro straps; these OneWrap straps from Velcro Canada are six
for $5.
12. Talk about your bright ideas:
a power indicator light is built right into the ends of Noma’s
ProPower Contractor Choice 14-gauge cord ($25).
13. Every shop needs a power bar.
This Rona Workshop Power Bar Pro has a steel case, built-in
cord storage and boasts eight outlets—three are wide-spaced
to accommodate transformers ($20). |
