Right On Target
Tapeless
measuring devices have been around for several years, and while
theyre useful in certain situations theyve always
had one potentially fatal flawaccuracy. Because most electronic
measurers use invisible sound waves to calculate distances,
you could never be sure of what distance you were actually targeting.
The new Zircon DM S50L appears to solve the problem by projecting
a laser pattern that helps you to target the measurement. The
DM S50L still uses sound to make the actual measurement, so
its not quite as precise as the much more expensive models
that use a laser for both targeting and measuring, but it does
work well. Its a good tool for calculating areas when
estimating materials like paint, wallpaper and flooring. It
also makes more complex volume measurements for heating, ventilation
and air conditioning calculations. A built-in memory function
recalls the last measurement taken, even after the power has
been turned off.
The unit has a maximum range of
50'. For more information contact Zircon at www.zircon.com

Portable Power
Sometimes its easier to bring the tool to the work rather
than the work to the tool. If you find yourself thinking along
those lines often, check out the new 10" 24-volt cordless
compound mitre saw from Bosch. At only 30 lbs. (not including
the battery), the saw is easily portable. Mitring capability
ranges to 48° left and right and bevel capacity ranges from
2° to 47°.
A 20 3/4" aluminum base with
a 3 1/4" sliding extension provides a good size work platform
and the 3 1/2" sliding fence with quick-release lever provides
enough support to cut 4 1/4" crown mouldings angled against
the fence, or 4 1/2" base mouldings flat against the fence
.
The saw comes with two 24-volt
batteries and a one-hour charger. Each battery will provide
enough power for 140 cuts in 1 x 6 pine.

The Sound Of One Hand Clamping
The
new Quick-Jaw clamps from Wolfcraft are designed for one-handed
operation, allowing you to open and close the clamp while still
keeping your other hand free to position the workpiece.
While there are other one-handed
clamps on the market, what sets these clamps apart is the unique
release lever mechanism that allows you to release the clamp
in small incrementsideal for making those inevitable minor
readjustments that are often necessary when setting up a clamp.
The Quick-Jaw clamps have large
cushioned pads to keep the jaws from marring work surfaces and
the arms can be also be reversed to provide spreader action.
The clamps are available in three sizes ranging from the 36"
bar clamp (with a spreading capacity 8" to 44") to
the mini 4 1/2" micro bar clamp (with a spreading capacity
4" to 8").
The clamps are available at Canadian
Tire. For more information contact Wolfcraft at www.wolfcraft.com
or 630-773-4777.
