Not sure
which tools to start out with, or maybe you want a tool kit
for someone moving out on their own? Here are three basic portable
kits that any beginner could use to tackle their DIY projects.
1. Tomboy Tools offers the Traveller
tool kit, which is ergonomically designed for women and sold
at home-based tool parties à la Tupperware. The carrying
case allows you to add more tools to the set. ($80, 877-254-8779
or tomboytools.ca)
2. The Rubbermaid Tough Tools kit
has rubber grips, making the tools easier to control. The carrying
case is light and easily portable. But it’s a letdown
when the packaging claims there are 56 pieces in the kit, only
to find out that’s counting nails and screws. ($50, 800-464-7946)
3. The Barbara K Signature tool kit
is also designed to make DIY easier for women or anyone with
smaller hands. The colourful kit includes a guide to simple
home repair that’s useful for DIY novices. ($60, 800-803-5657
or www.barbarak.com)
