Summer 2004 - Next Generation of Wood |
|
Composites and plastics are alternatives to wood |
Alternatives to wood have been around for several years, but
are becoming more popular as a low-maintenance choice for non-structural
parts of outdoor projects. Vinyl and composite materials (a
mixture of wood and plastic) can often substitute for the ubiquitous
pressure-treated lumber. Many of these materials are available
in different dimensions, for elements such as posts, pickets,
railings and edge trim. They’re also ideal for decking,
docks, fences, steps, flower planters, pergolas and almost any
backyard project you can imagine. |
