HOT TOOLS FOR 2009

Toronto, ON (January 14, 2009) — This year, the "must haves" for your toolbox promise to make any task quicker and easier. Many of the innovative new tools for 2009 featured in Canadian Home Workshop magazine will have you thinking — "Why hasn't anyone thought of this earlier?"

"Just Cut; Sanding is a Bonus"

Imagine pieces ready to install straight off the mitre saw! The Final Cut blade cuts and sands your wood at the same time. Final Cut is a sanding disc that attaches to a tablesaw or mitre saw blade via an adhesive backing. As the blade cuts, the disc sands and polishes!

Shock Value:

This All-In-One wire stripper does everything your old wire stripper does — and then some! The Circuit Alert Voltage-Sensing NM Cable Stripper is lightweight but heavy- duty tool in both form and function. Use the AC voltage sensor embedded in the tool's handle to test for a live wire, and then with the flick of your wrist turn over to the stainless-steel blades to cut and strip cable.

Slip and Slide:

The Bigslider utility mover will be a huge help to do-it-yourselfers this year. Simply slide the smooth plastic sheet under whatever load you need to move and slide the load to where it needs to go. How easy is that? One person can move objects up to 500 lbs. Available in a few models that can be pulled by handles or ties which can turn the smooth plastic sheet into a skid, sled or even a bag.

Top Notch Nailer:

The Grex Pin Nailer, with its flawless magazine and comfortable grip are only some of the reasons this tool gained a 4.5/5 — star rating in a recent Canadian Home Workshop tool test. The small tip makes it a cinch to get into small spaces. Because it leaves such a small mark on the wood's surface, the unique lockout feature overcomes the problem of thinking you've driven in a nail when, in fact, the magazine is empty.

Luxury Tool:

Cut a whole in your wallet with an heirloom designer pocket knife! The Acanto pocket knife is part of the heirloom Argentum collection. Created by a seventh-generation silversmith, artist Adrian Pallarols, in his Buenos Aires shop, this fabulous pocket knife is set in 18Kgold and sterling sliver. Both functional and very beautiful, it is a high-quality workshop accessory to be handed down from generation to generation.

In the Bag:

The FatMax Xtreme technician bag is a must for any DIYer. The innovative design features a compartment for every tool imaginable. The rigid walls and bottom keep the sturdy bag upright so that you can find even the most elusive of tools! The padded handle is great for easy toting. This little bag will organize your whole DIY life!

Lock and Load:

There's a new clamp in town. The Benchmark Auto-Lock Pliers are self-adjusting with no knob, no fuss. With one hand, you can grip a bolt, then release it just as quickly. There is one unique adjusting feature on the new Auto Lock Pliers: the screw in the centre controls the grabbing pressure. If you want a tight grip, grab hold with all your might; however, if you are working with a delicate piece of material, use the gentle setting by loosening the screw.

Cut to the Chase:

The Milwaukee Hackzall Reciprocating Saw can chomp through a piece of PVC pipe in seconds while still leaving a smooth finish. Powered by a 12-volt Li-ion battery, the Hackzall runs at 3,000 rpm. Its lightweight all-metal design is durable and its sleek design can fit into small spaces. Blade changes are seamless with the quick-lock keyless clamp; and a variable-speed trigger gives you control and power all at once.

The Canadian Home Workshop Show takes place Friday February 27 — Sunday March 1, 2009 at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Road, Mississauga, ON. It is the largest show of its kind in Canada and the only one-stop shop to find everything that's new in innovative tools at great prices.
